Lake Bunggee Flood & Erosion Control Board
Question: What makes Lake Bunggee different neighboring lakes?
Answer: Lake Bunggee has a Flood and Beach Erosion Control Board, and other lakes do not.
Question: Why does Lake Bunggee have a Flood and Beach Erosion Control Board?
Answer: The Tax District became a Flood and Beach Erosion Control Board per the Connecticut General Statues in the late 1990’s to enter a cost share with the Department of Environmental Protection to repair a breach that was discovered in one of the spillway aprons. There was also notable wear on one side wall, ice breakers, and face of the exiting side of the spillway. The district incorporated the Flood and Beach Erosion Control Board into the by-laws stating, The Tax District shall have the authority to exercise Flood and Beach Erosion Control powers pursuant to Chapter 477 of the Connecticut General Statues Section 25-84 through Section 25-96.
Today we have two separate entities, the Tax District and the Flood and Beach Erosion Control Board. Per the Connecticut General Statutes, each entity has their own objectives and their own method of raising funds to meet those objectives.
The Tax District has a nine-member Board of Directors structure. Section 25-84 says the Flood and Erosion Control Board is comprised of not less than five and no more than seven members. Members can be either individual selectmen or comprised of the Tax Districts existing board. The Tax District chooses to have the same board members oversee the two entities.
